© Copyright Computer Lab Solutions 2006. All rights reserved. Computer Labs at Wesleyan 7 computer labs, about 450 total computers. Windows network. Windows and Mac clients. About 100 student employees to staff 7 open labs. 1 network administrator to manage it all. 47 dual-platform classrooms (Mac/PC).

Information Needs Accountability – They were spending a lot of money on computer labs, and wanted to know and prove that it was necessary. Planning – Each year they could replace only 7 or 8 of the 26 labs, and wanted to put the newest technology in the most-used labs. Additional Funding – They wanted to create a new open lab, but couldn’t prove that the existing open labs were fully utilized. Departments - some wanted new computers in a lab, but IT wanted to show that the lab wasn’t as used as other labs on campus. Students – they often had to walk around campus to visit 2 or 3 open labs before finding an available computer. They wanted to prevent this.

Had “paper and pencil” solution and it was too much work. No expensive, new hardware. Minimal client-side processing and minimal network traffic. Functional for Windows and Mac clients.
