Cupid and Psyche By: Annie Jongebreur, Michaela McCatty, Emily Gibson, and Kimmie Ahrens
A long time ago there was a girl named Psyche. She had two older sisters who where envious of her beauty. Many men followed her around. Psyche was annoyed by her admirers.
Aphrodite was also jealous like Psyche’s sisters. She called her son, Cupid, and told him to shoot Psyche with one of his arrows and make her fall in love with a monster.
Cupid had to obey his mother’s rules so he flew to Psyche’s bedroom. He drew back his arrow and accidentally cut himself. This made him fall in love with Psyche.
Psyche’s father wanted to know why Psyche was not yet married so he sent an oracle to send her to a mountainside to find her husband. On the top of the mountainside there was a castle.
Psyche did see her husband, but only at night when she couldn’t see what he looked like. When she would wake up, her husband would be gone.
One night Psyche and her husband had a conversation. As they talked Psyche said, “When will I ever see you?” He replied, “Trust me, sweet heart. I will let you see me in time.”
Psyche got so lonely that she ask if her sisters could come and visit. Her sisters were annoyed because her husband didn’t come and greet them.
Psyche’s sisters kept asking what her husband looked like. Psyche finally admitted she had never seen her husband.
Her sisters thought that Psyche should sneak up on her husband and see who he was. She said that she would try it.
So while he was sleeping, Psyche snuck into Cupid’s room with a candle and took a peek at his face.
She saw a handsome face and suddenly recognized him as Cupid. Psyche was surprised, but very happy.
After she recognized Cupid, wax fell from the candle and woke him up. When he woke up he realized that he couldn’t trust his wife so he got up and flew away.
