EMBL, Online Conference The European Research Council (ERC)

EMBL, Online Conference European Research Council (ERC) - Governance - Independent Scientific Council establish the overall scientific strategy, monitoring of the operational quality, evaluating the implementation of the programme Dedicated Implementation Structure operational management of the ERC ERC Programme will be based on the principles of scientific excellence, autonomy, transparency and accountability

EMBL, Online Conference What is meant by "Frontier Research" ? Frontier Research deals with: the creation of new knowledge most exciting and risky research areas connection between the creation of new knowledge and useful knowlegde at the same time multi-, inter- or transdisciplinary research

EMBL, Online Conference The ERC - Start Up Strategy - ERC Starting Independent Research Grants: - € m per year (around 200 grants awarded each year, project duration up to 5 years) -for independent and excellent individual research teams (transnationally or nationally composed) Independence: -"... investigators having authority to apply for, hold, and manage their own research funding, and to publish as senior authors" Submission Procedure: -two step procedure -electronic proposal submission (sub-deadlines) First calls at the end of 2006 or in early 2007

EMBL, Online Conference ERC - Starting Independent Research Grants - Excellent researchers are eligible who: are working or intend to work in any part of the EU or Associated countries intend to start their first independent team intend to get support for a recently established team are less than 10 years from the award of their PhD wish to return to a host organisation in the EU or in an Associated country
