The student will read, write, & identify the place values of decimals through thousandths.

To read decimals, 1.read the whole number to the left of the decimal point, if there is one; 2.read the decimal point as “and”; 3.read the digits to the right of the decimal point just as you would read a whole number; and 4.say the name of the place value of the digit in the smallest place. Reading Decimals ONE place after the decimal ~ TENths 10 TWO places after the decimal ~ HUNDREDths 100 THREE places after the decimal ~ THOUSANDths 1,000 Is it TENTHS, HUNDREDTHS, OR THOUSANDTHS Relate the number of spaces taken up after the decimal to the number of zeros in TEN, one HUNDRED, and one THOUSAND.
