The teacher must be a REFLECTIVE decision maker. While students have rights against discrimination, student safety should always come first. Teachers need insurance for liability. Teacher may use a variety of teaching styles Multilevel Instruction Individualized Instruction Differentiated Instruction
Teachers are accountable for both instructional and non-instructional responsibilities Review the list of Characteristics of a Competent Classroom Teacher (pp ) Three basic rules: a. know why you use a specific strategy b. enable students to think critically c. the effectiveness of a teacher is measured by how well the students learn
Structuring the learning environment Accepting and sharing instructional accountability Demonstrating “Withitness” and overlapping Motivating and challenging activities Modeling appropriate behaviors Facilitating student acquisition of data Creating a safe environment Clarifying whenever necessary Using period of silence Questioning thoughtfully

Which five teacher characteristics from Chapter 2 (p ) are most important and why? Teachers copy printed materials all the time. When is that permitted and when is it prohibited? Should teachers use social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter to communicate with students? What the advantages? Disadvantages? With the explosion of technology in the past five years, will printed textbooks become obsolete? Should they?
Read Chapter 2 and be ready to discuss it by Thursday, Feb. 2 nd. You may want to start reading Chapter 3 to be ready for next Wednesday, Feb. 8 th. Threaded Discussion A (graded) starts Thursday, Feb. 1 st (get on Thurs. or Friday or you will lose 1 pt.) and ends Monday, Feb. 6 th at midnight. Work on your second lesson plan (middle school) which includes one of the teaching models other than the traditional (due Feb. 14) Schedule next Tuesday: 12:10-12:40 Music, 12:40- 1:10 Art, 1:10-1:40 P.E.
