Dolní Benešov is a small town situated in the region called Hlučínsko near the Polish border. The town consists of two parts - Dolní Benešov and Zábřeh. Zábřeh was joined to Dolní Benešov in 1977. The town dominant is the Castle Dolní Benešov. We can see the mixture of the different architecture styles there, but the core of the building is from the 16 th century. The biggest reconstruction was realized in the 19 th and 20 th centuries. The castle is surrounded by the English park, which is from the turn of the 19 th and 20 th centuries too. In the Opavská street a Pseudoghthic brick St Cross Chapel stands. It was built in the 70´s of the 19 th century. The brick architecture is typical for this region. In the Cyprian Lelek´s Square there is a baroque statue called Immaculata from 1784. Zábřeh´s castle building was used as a manor house for a long time. Since 1945 it became the seat of the school. In 1938 the St Urban´s Church in Zábřeh was built. Only 10 years later the church was consecrated by the bishop. Currently in the church´s area there is also The First and Second World War victim´s memorial.

Dolní Benešov is well-known for its extensive cultural life and organizations which have got a long tradition. During one of May weekends a spring festival of brass orchestras called "The Music Spring in Hlučínsko" takes place. This two-day marathon of not only Czech brass orchestras offers a rich programme for all. At the beginning of September one of the Saturdays belongs to The Beer Festival. The biggest sport event of a year is a competition called "The Iron Prajzák". This triathlon tempts every July many sportsmen. They can try their strength in swimming, riding a bike and running. We do not have much information about the origin of the airport in Zábřeh. In the past it was a strictly secret place, because it was an area of the Ministry of Defence. It is a picturesque place which lies in Silesia between Opava and Odra rivers, and at the Polish border. This region went through a specific and interesting historical development. After 1742 it passed from the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the ownership of Prussia, later Germany. That is why it reflected the local people´s thinking and behaviour as well. This part of Silesia is worth visiting, there are many remarkable places, historical buildings and various ways how to spend your free time.
