5The way the television works The way television works is thatvariations in light from an object produce electric impulses in a photo-electric cell. These electrical impulses are magnified enormously by a valve. The impulses can be trapped by a radio but instead of going through a loud-speaker, they are fed into a cathode ray tube. There they form tiny streams of electrons that impinge on a chemically-treated screen, on which the object is reconstituted by means of glowing dots.
