2  1-4: Sullen Despair  We may think that God’s discipline is underserved.  I will hold my tongue and say nothing.  Nothing good will come out of it. David’s Despair Psalm 39

3  5-10: Two Humbling Truths:  5-6: Recognizing the brevity of life and our fragile human condition makes us long for deliverance from God.  Life is empty without God’s favor.  Life is the length of four fingers put together.  So much effort for money you can’t keep. David’s Despair Psalm 39

4  7-10: Our turning point.  Why do we wait on the Lord?  Because He delights in helping us.  When we recognize the sharpening of God, we have hope. David’s Despair Psalm 39

5  9-10: Will the suffering last?  It hurts.  But there is purpose.  The hand that disciplines is the hand that delivers. David’s Despair Psalm 39

6  11-13: Our Submission To God.  Apart from God, our life is nothing. V.11  Humbled to seek the sharpening and discipline from God. V.12  Hope renewed in this temporary life. David’s Despair Psalm 39
