1. Chapter 7 Learning Target: Rights and Responsibilities of citizenship

2.  Have you ever helped a person in need?  Have you ever volunteered?  If you haven’t, what are some ways you could help people in your neighborhood?

3.  Look at the photographs on pages 202-203. What information can you find? How does this relate to our learning target?

4. This read aloud is a story about a class who volunteers to help clean up their neighborhood. In this chapter, you will read about ways to be helpful citizens.

5.  How did the narrator feel in the story? Did his feelings change, or stay pretty much the same?  What were some ways the characters showed responsibility for their community? Do you think these ways were valuable?

6.  Responsibility “We should take responsibility for cleaning up the environment.”  Volunteer “Some kids in our class volunteered to clean up a vacant lot near our school.”

7.  Using information from the story and your own thoughts, how do you think citizens are vital to communities? Think about all the different things that make up a community.
