2 The Academic Division - An OverviewPage 2 Academic Division Responsibilities To provide a central service to students, staff and Government agencies for the accurate recording, dissemination and reporting of student data and information To provide academic administrative support to the Schools and Faculties To support the University executive in more informed decision making and the formulation of policy To support the development of learning and teaching practice for staff and students.

To continue to develop our customer focus and develop a greater level of “self service” provision. To support more effective and informed decision making throughout the University by the provision of timely and accurate management information. To improve and develop the Division’s services so that our contribution is seen as facilitative, enabling and valuable.

9 The Academic Division - An OverviewPage 9 Tonbridge Centre Esther van Hout Tonbridge Centre Administration Development of Tonbridge portfolio  Work with Faculties and Departments to extend current provision and develop new provision  Develop CPD activity Coordinate activity at Tonbridge in the context of overall HE provision in West Kent Promote the University in the Tonbridge area

11 The Academic Division - An OverviewPage 11 Partnership Services Jen Wyatt Develop and manage the relationships with Colleges and Partner Schools Prepare the University’s WP Strategy Support the WP agenda through projects e.g. Aim Higher and other outreach work Development of new initiatives e.g. Centre for Work and Learning Community Outreach Delivery of activities in fulfilment of our Access Agreement, i.e. Partner Schools, Student Ambassadors

12 The Academic Division - An OverviewPage 12 European Office Lead on European initiatives Support European partnerships e.g Transmanche, UKB Oversight of European exchanges (Erasmus) Bid for and manage range of European projects with EU funding e.g. Interreg European recruitment Orientation & support for EU students

13 The Academic Division - An OverviewPage 13 Scholarships and Foreign Loans Unit Mary Hughes / Joanna Beck Research Council liaison and administration of all RC studentship matters University Scholarship promotion and administration (UG & PG) Foreign Student Loan administration (particularly with the USA and Canada)

Advice to Students on:  improving the quality of written assignments  learning from lectures and seminars  oral presentations  revision and exam strategies  time management and confidence building  planning dissertations and other long projects  moving on: study strategies for Part II or postgraduate study

17 The Academic Division - An OverviewPage 17 Quality Assurance and Validation Malcolm Dixon Development and maintenance of the University’s academic related regulations Support for internal and external QA Support for the validation of University programmes, both internal and external Preparing for and managing external quality audits e.g. QAA Institutional Audit Organising internal academic related audits Working with external bodies ensuring our regulations meet external requirements
