Multilingual App Toolkit PRESENTERS: JAN NELSON, CAMERON LERUM OCT 16, 2012
Windows 8 Languages More languages than ever before Microsoft will continue to be a market leader in language support with an additional 14 new display languages Windows 8 will be available in 109 languages. With these additional languages, Windows will provide a native language version of Windows for over 4.5 billion people.
Windows App Store Developers can sell apps in more than 200 markets, with support for local currencies in over 70 markets Developers can localize their apps in more than 100 languages. At general availability of Windows 8, we will support app submission from 41 markets. Support will continue to increase as we expand the Store service beyond general availability of Windows 8.
Multilingual App Toolkit Integration with Visual Studio IDE enables you to add and manage translation files to a project solution using standard Visual Studio menus and dialogs. Pseudo language engine gives you ‘in house’ testing of localized apps by identifying translation issues during development such as hardcoded, concatenated, or truncated strings and other visual issues that arise when working with languages. XLIFF file export & import roundtrip provides the ability to send and receive resources, enabling to industry standard translation services. XLIFF lightweight editor provides a localization UI dedicated for editing translated strings. Get translation suggestions quickly by using the integrated Microsoft Translator (requires active internet connection).
XLIFF 1.2 Integration The XLIFF files are consumed during the app’s build process Integrated in the Visual Studio project as any other source file Application translations are managed directly within the XLIFF files This applied to Pseudo, Machine, and Human translations Provides developers with translation independent of native resource format Resource changes are automatically merged with XLIFF files Developer focuses on source resource file, not multiple resource files Reduces adoption barriers associated with resource management
DEMO Enabling Multilingual App Toolkit Support Localizability testing using pseudo localization Add support for Brazilian Portuguese Demonstrate integration with Microsoft Translator service Send Brazilian Portuguese resource for translation Receive Brazilian Portuguese after translation Run Brazilian Portuguese translated app
