3 STAAR Grades 3-8 Results Explanation  TEA will not provide performance standards until January 2013.  When setting performance standards, scale scores are calculated which is a conversion of the raw score onto a scale that takes into account the difficulty level of the specific set of questions used on a test in any given year.  The average number of items correct (raw scores) were provided at the state and district level.  The information provided is designed to help the Board understand where the district stands relative to the State. 3

9 2013 Planned Accountability Timeline  November 2012 - STAAR (grades 3-8) standards approved by commissioner  January 2013 - STAAR (Grades 3-8) results from spring 2012 available with standards  March 2013 – Commissioner releases final decisions for 2013 accountability  June 2013 – Notification reports will be issued to districts for campuses that were rated AU in 2011 and are anticipated to be rated as “unacceptable” in 2013  August 2013 – District and campuses’ ratings are released, based on percent proficient (Level II) indicator 9
