STAAR Grades 3-8 Results Explanation TEA will not provide performance standards until January 2013. When setting performance standards, scale scores are calculated which is a conversion of the raw score onto a scale that takes into account the difficulty level of the specific set of questions used on a test in any given year. The average number of items correct (raw scores) were provided at the state and district level. The information provided is designed to help the Board understand where the district stands relative to the State. 3
