5 What can students take? A student must take one course from each of the Required and Flexible Areas (Required A is 2 courses). A student can take any course in a Core Area as long as he or she has the prerequisite. Some programs restrict which courses can be taken in the Flexible Core. 7 Who is impacted? A.S. programs have obtained waivers to require courses to fulfill some Core Areas: – Business Administration A.S. – Liberal Arts and Science A.S. – Therapeutic Recreation A.S. – Community School Health A.S. – Dietetics and Nutrition A.S. – Computer Science A.S. – Mathematics A.S. – Engineering Science A.S. 10 What happens when students transfer? Senior Colleges have an additional 6-12 credit College Option requirement – Associate degree graduates will be required to complete 6 credits after transfer – Transfers with more than 30 credits will be required to complete 9 credits after transfer plus whatever Common Core requirements that they have not completed – Transfers with less than 30 credits will be required to complete 12 credits after transfer plus whatever Common Core requirements that they have not completed – Students that transfer into CUNY colleges with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution will be exempted from the Common Core.
