1.a. Describe Name and describe the different types of water that make up Earth’s water supply? Freshwater – Suitable for drinking, 3% of the Earth’s water supply – example Lake Saltwater – Unsuitable for drinking, 97% of the Earth’s water supply – example Ocean
1.b. Analyze Why is only a small percentage of Earth’s Freshwater available to us? Most of the freshwater in underground or frozen in glaciers.
1.c. Elaborate In your opinion, which is more important – surface water or groundwater? Why? Answers may vary Surface water more accessible ground water more abundant.
2.a. Recall What drives the water cycle? Sun’s Energy Evaporation and Precipitation
2.b. Make Inferences From what bodies of water do you think most evaporation occurs? Why? Oceans and Lakes because of the size
3.a. Define What is a Drought? A long period of lower-than-normal precipitation or no RAIN.
3.b. Analyze How does water support life on Earth? We depend on water for drinking, growing crops, energy, and recreation.
3.c. Evaluate What water problem do you think is most critical in your community? Is the amount of water wasted in my community on watering of lawns, washing of cars, leaking faucets, and so on.
