1 Stanzas: The sections of a poem (kind of like paragraphs) "I cannot go to school today," Said little Peggy Ann McKay. "I have the measles and the mumps, A gash, a rash and purple bumps. My mouth is wet, my throat is dry, I'm going blind in my right eye. My tonsils are as big as rocks, I've counted sixteen chicken pox I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke, I'm sure that my left leg is broke– My neck is stiff, my voice is weak, I hardly whisper when I speak. What's that? What's that you say? You say today is...Saturday? G'bye, I'm going out to play!"

11 Internal Rhyme: Words on the same line rhyme Ex: Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary I had a cat who wore a hat. He looked cool but felt the fool.

12 Alliteration: Repetition of the same consonant at the beginning of a word. Ex: She sang sad songs on Saturday. Her beautiful blue dress billowed in the wind.

13 Onomatopoeia: Words that make a sound Ex: Crackle, whoosh, bang, bam, pop

14 Not all poetry has to rhyme. Poetry that does not rhyme is called Free Verse.
