7 Learning Objectives Participants will have a thorough understanding of this award and its requirements Become more familiar with the unit self-assessment tool and realize it’s usefulness 7

12 Requirements Who is eligible? Any registered commissioner providing direct unit service –Unit commissioner works with his/her assigned units –Other commissioners work with the District Commissioner where the units are registered 12

13 Technical Skills The ability to use UVTS 2.0 to log visits The ability to provide UVTS 2.0 visit reports to an ADC or DC 13

14 Required outcomes Demonstrated use of UVTS Improved retention of unit members On-time unit re-charter All over the course of two years 14

15 Participation Participate or staff ONE continuing education event for Commissioner Service 15

16 More on Participation Exceptions “Participating or staffing in an applicable event prior to the start date of this award or instructing during a training session as part of a regular staff meeting may not be applied” 16

17 “Visits” The commissioner shall make at least (6) physical visits to each assigned unit per year The commissioner shall make at least (6) significant contacts in addition to the (6) physical visits All visits & contacts must be logged with UVTS 17

18 Define “Visit” Visit or Contact? Visit: Physical visit to each assigned unit –Examples: Unit meeting Leadership meeting Committee meeting Outing 18

20 Training and Experience Complete Commissioner Basic Training Continual Education for Commissioners Provide re-chartering service –Hold membership inventories –Training verification of unit leadership –Journey to Excellence progress review meetings –Perform charter presentations to the Chartered Organizations 20

21 Journey to Excellence Unit Service per JTE: –Unit “visits” are being made and are entered into the Unit Visit Tracking System (UVTS) –A unit should expect a minimum of six commissioner visits/contacts per year –Criteria for JTE may change from year to year. –Adjustments in the requirements for this award may be necessary by the Council Commissioner to reflect these changes. 21

22 Performance Performance Goal –Identify a specific goal in a specific unit that will improve unit performance. –Utilize the Annual Unit Self-Assessment tool The goal should target improvement –In at least one of the unit self-assessment target areas Action Plan –Provide a written plan approved and signed by the unit leader 22

23 Results Unit Self-Assessment –Conducted twice a year for two years Unit Retention –On-time re-chartering for two consecutive years Youth Retention –Youth retention percentages must show improvement –Refer to the Journey to Excellence form for guidelines 23

24 Approval and Committee Action Approval by ADC/DC –Requirements –Participation –Performance Upon completion –Provide a copy of the progress record to the District Commissioner Final approval –Council Commissioner –Council Scout Executive 24
