The Method The Lord used Prophets to speak on His behalf. Qualifications of the Prophet: 1. Sovereign Calling 2. God-Given Abilities Types of Prophets: 1. The Oral Prophets (Two of which were Elijah and Elisha) 2. The Writing Prophets (Started writing about 90 years after the division of the Northern and Southern kingdoms)

The Method Jeremiah 1:4-10 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." I ordained you a prophet to the nations." Then said I: Then said I: "Ah, Lord God! "Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth." Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth." But the Lord said to me: But the Lord said to me: "Do not say, 'I am a youth,' "Do not say, 'I am a youth,' For you shall go to all to whom I send you, For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak. And whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces, Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you," says the Lord. For I am with you to deliver you," says the Lord. Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me: Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me: "Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. "Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant." To build and to plant."

The Method Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me. Then I said, "Here am I! Send me. Ezekiel 2:3-4 And He said to me: "Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me; they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day. For they are impudent and stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord God.' And He said to me: "Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me; they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day. For they are impudent and stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord God.' Ezekiel 3:26-27 I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be mute and not be one to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious house. But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord God.' He who hears, let him hear; and he who refuses, let him refuse. I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be mute and not be one to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious house. But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord God.' He who hears, let him hear; and he who refuses, let him refuse.

The Method Joel 1:1 The word of the Lord that came to Joel the son of Pethuel. Amos 1:1-3 The words of Amos, And he said: Thus says the Lord: Obadiah 1:1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord God concerning Edom Jonah 1:1-2 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me." Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me." Jonah 3:1 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying,

The New Covenant Jeremiah 31:31-34 "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah-- not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah-- not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."

The New Covenant Jeremiah 32:40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me. And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me. Ezekiel 37:26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore. Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore. Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

What is the character of the new covenant? Jeremiah 31:31-34 It is a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah It is a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts I will be their God, and they shall be My people. I will be their God, and they shall be My people. They all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. They all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."

Character of the new covenant (continued). Isa.61:8 I will make an everlasting covenant Isa.61:8 I will make an everlasting covenant Jer.50:5 They will ask for the way to Zion; they will come that they may join themselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten. Jer.50:5 They will ask for the way to Zion; they will come that they may join themselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten. Jer.36:40 the city shall not be plucked up, or overthrown any more forever. Jer.36:40 the city shall not be plucked up, or overthrown any more forever.

What is the relationship of the church to the new covenant? Ephesians 2 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh--who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands-- that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh--who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands-- that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

We (gentiles) who are like a wild olive tree have been grafted into the cultivated olive tree (Israel) Romans 11:17-19 Romans 11:17-19 And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, "Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in." And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, "Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in." Romans 11:23-24 Romans 11:23-24 And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree? And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

Hebrews 1:1-3 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, (literally In-Son) whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person…

Jesus is the complete representation of God. John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. Jesus is the Alpha and Omega The Logos of God in human flesh, is the Son of God with the Glory of God in him, The fullness of the Godhead in bodily form. Idolatry is trying to represent God in any way other than Jesus.

Luke 4:18-19

-To reveal Jesus as the Savior of the world. Identifying characteristics of the Messiah. Messiah would be a descendant of Abraham and Jacob, stem of Jesse and seed of David (Gen.22:18). Messiah would come during the Second Temple (Hag.2:9; Mal.3:1) suddenly come to His temple. The Scepter would not depart from Judah until Shiloh come (Gen.49:1,10). Messiahs birthplace would be Bethlehem (Mic.5:2). Conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of a Jewish Virgin and called Immanuel (Isa.7:14) Mediator of a New and Everlasting Covenant that would include Gentiles (Jer.31:30-33; Isa.49:6-9).

Messiah would unite in Himself the offices of Prophet, Priest, King, Lawgiver, Judge and Redeemer (Dt.18:15-18; Isa.33:22; Ps.110:4). His credential is to perform miracles (Isa.35:5,6). He would be a light to Gentiles and the glory of Israel (Isa.46:13; 49:6). He would be sold for thirty pieces of silver (Ze.11:12). He would be silent before His accusers (Isa.53:7). He would be scourged and spit upon (Isa.50:6). His hands and feet would be pierced (Ps.22:16). He would be reviled (Ps.22:7,8). He would be given gall and vinegar (Ps.69:21).

Messiahs garments would be divided (Ps.22:18). His bones would not be broken (Ps.34:20). He would be put to death among transgressors, but buried with the rich (Isa.53:12,14; Dan.9:24-26). His body would not see corruption (Ps.16:10). He would ascend into heaven and be the great High Priest and Intercessor (Ps.2:6,7; 68:18; 110:1,4). He will come again in power and great glory to judge the nations (Zech.14:1-7; Ezek.21:27; Ps.50:3-5). Messiahs dominion will cover the earth (Dan.7:13- 26; Ps.22:27; 72:11; Mal.1:11).

The Content The way of salvation (John 3:16) Much of Jesus teaching was about Himself. I am He … the Messiah - Jn. 4:26 I am the Bread of Life - Jn. 6:35 I am the Door - Jn. 10:9 I am the Son of God - Jn. 10:36 I am the Resurrection and Life - Jn. 11:25 I am the Way, Truth, Life - Jn. 14:6 Before Abraham was I AM - Jn. 8:58 I am with you always - Mt. 28:20

Christs teachings also clarified the past. An example of Jesus clarifying the past. "You have heard it said … But I say to you … This is my Son … hear ye Him … Never man spoke … like this man …

Christs teachings are seed thoughts for the Epistles. For An Example of Jesus Seed Thoughts (Compare John 5:12 with 1Corinthians 13:1-7) The Seed-Thought Principle: This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. John 15:12 The Specific Full Meaning: Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.

The Content The way of salvation No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:13-18

Christs Teaching Jesus never once said, thus saith the LORD, which was the highest thing a man or prophet of God could say. If they were wrong they were stoned! Instead, Jesus said … but I say unto you.

The Value of Christs Teaching: No man ever spoke like this man (Jn.7:46) My words shall not pass away (Lk.21:33) The words I speak unto you are spirit and life (Jn.6:63) If a man keep my word, he shall never see death (8:51) Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them, shall be likened unto a wise man (Mt.7:24) Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away (Mt. 24:35) He that hears my word and believes Him that sent me, has eternal life, and comes not into judgment, but has passed out of death into life (Jn.5:24) This is My Son … hear ye Him (Lk.9:35)
