NOAH WAS A VERY WISE MAN. He first sent out a RAVEN, a scavenger bird (Gen.8:7) because he knew that a scavenger bird would return to Ark if the waters had not receded enough to allow it to perch on a carcass! Then Noah sent out a DOVE, a clean bird (Gen.8:8) because he knew a clean bird would not perch on a slimy surface or a carcass! Then Noah sent out a second DOVE (Gen.8:9.10) and when it returned, it had an olive-leaf in its mouth (Gen.8:11). This showed Noah there was fruitfulness at lower elevations! Olives can grow in water, but not at mountain-top heights!! Then Noah sent out a third DOVE (Gen.8:12) which didn’t return, meaning the waters were almost fully subsided.
