2 Vocabulary Transformations: movements of geometric figures. Pre-image: the position of the figure before the transformation. Image: the position of the figure after the transformation.

3 Transformations on the Coordinate Plane Reflection- the figure is flipped over a line. Reflection over the x-axis: (x, y) (x, -y) Reflection over the y-axis: (x, y) (-x, y)

4 Translation: a figure is slid in any direction. (x, y) (x + a, y + b)

5 Dilation: a figure is enlarged or reduced. (x, y) (kx, ky)

6 Rotation: a figure is turned around a point. 90° rotation: (x, y) (-y, x) 180° rotation: (x, y) (-x, -y)
