4 Essay Question: Discuss how technological developments from changed the Ottoman Empires global influence. Be sure to describe its position of power and influence in the beginning of the period as your starting point.

5 Review Change over time Essay Step 1: Break up the question What key terms will need to be in your essay? Choose ONE of the following political units, and discuss how technological developments from changed its global influences. 6 Step 2 Build a frame work. The purpose of this is make sure you do not leave anything out of your essay. Baseline: What was it like before? Impact: What had the impact? How was the political unit impacted? Change: What changes occurred? Continuity: What stayed the same?

7 Step 3: Build your essay Fill in your graphic organizer with details This means, people, dates, places, names of technology, ect.

8 Step 4: Write it First, you need to figure out if you want to say if something had or did not have an impact. Once you have done this: –Rephrase the question as an answer; include all key phrases –Address each part of the question with a statement and evidence –Make the transition to the body of the essay with a sentence like, To better understand these changes we need to look at the area prior to …

9 Step 4 cont…. Your first paragraph is your THESIS paragraph, which should contain that STRONG statement of what you are going to write about. Second, write 4-6 paragraphs (Thesis, body, body, body, Closing) Use transitional words and trigger words to highlight important points Contrast, ChangeSimilarity or Continuity but, however, although, though in contrast, alternatively Since, moreover, similarity, as well as, still, likewise, therefore

10 Conclusion Should restate your thesis, and restate how you have supported your thesis (what did you do to show what you wrote is correct?)

19 Step 7: Writing and Thesis DBQ Thesis –Open with something like, After reviewing these document, it is clear that… –Rephrase the question as an answer; include all key phrases. Write your response to the answer –Address each part of the question with a statement and a document reference or an example (compare, contrast, and change over time as appropriate –Suggest, describe, and justify the inclusion of the additional document as part of the last sentence –Make the transition to the body of the essay by citing the additional document: To better understand how these documents relate to each other, a document about x would be useful.
