Veterans Work-Based Learning and Careers Prefer for CAP Work-Based Learning Veterans prefer direct presentations of information. Best suited for Business management classes, Culinary arts, and possibly even Health Occupations fields.
Babyboomers Generation Behaviors and Values Live to work/engrossed in work Individualism over teamwork Raising fortunes Dedicated/Driven Authority Issues Needs Public Recognition Show Respect/Not Formality React if things do not go well
Babyboomers First Half Boomers Career first, family second Second Half Boomers More laid back Good work habits Desire to be recognized Liked only limited authority
Babyboomers Work-Based Learning and Careers Best suited for CEIP Work-Based Learning programs. Prefer interactive learning and working environment where networking and teamwork are valued. Like to learn from books and respond best to trainers are equals.
Generation X Generation Behaviors and Values Work to live Question work: What does it have to do with my survival? Must take care of self Distaste for micromanagement No concept of corporate loyalty Slackers Capable of Multi-tasking Free agents
Generation X Work-Based learning and Careers Capable of working at any of the WBL programs, but best suited for a CO-OP program. Choose WBL programs where motivation and encouragement is provided. Programs such as Auto Trades where there is a shop supervisor or foreman available. Or an office where there is an office manager to offer motivation and encouragement.
Millennial Generation Behaviors and Values Social cohesion Optimistic Well educated Team playing attitudes Powerhouse Generation/Confident Institutional Trust Technological Manners Reborn Easily intimidated by difficult people
Millenial Work-Based Learning and Careers Millennial will be looking for work at businesses which have health care plans and a stable future. Due to continual changing technology this generation may choose a WBL program in the auto trades which is very complex today. Health care and computer repair as well as business class all have excellent futures which this generation may choose to pursue.
Understanding the Generations Improves Communications between the different generational groups Improves employer and employee relations Improves productivity at work Reduces animosities that may exist between the different generational groups.
