First Steps at the Firm Get the names and titles of business editors and reporters for local papers and business tabloids in your area to build your contact list. Begin preparing press releases, your goal should be one release every two weeks. You can find resources on the cpasnet.com website. –Make More Money (posted on the site at the end of each month) is an easy release for you to prepare. –The Monthly Marketing Internet Content is another source. –Be sure to download the Press Release Writing Information packet from our website. Prepare your Mailing List. Start with clients. Add referral sources and prospective clients. Then use software (like D&B Marketplace) to target specific businesses in your area.
First Steps at the Firm (contd) Set up your Bulk Rate Postal Indicia. The cost is about $75 to set up the account and youll need to add money to it (usually $75.) Begin downloading collateral materials from the FTP site and customizing for your firm. You should prepare guides for each professional to present to other professionals when they leave the office. –Your lobby should only contain your materials. Take this opportunity to show off what you know. Make sure you have downloaded and customized the current Insert & Giveaway for each newsletter you subscribe to. Also, ensure you have enough copies of the insert to be placed in your newsletters when you receive them.
First Steps at the Firm (contd) Pick a niche. Have the firm meet to determine what niche you want to go after. Where are your firm strengths? –Once you determine your niche, get a target mailing list and use it! Plan and hold a seminar, send direct mail pieces, target extra press releases to specific publication to show your expertise. –Be sure that your firm (as a whole) is serious about entering a niche market. A niche will require more energy and resources than some people expect. Prepare your marketing calendar and marketing plan. Set a plan of action and follow it!
