Law of Sines and CosinesAccelerated Math 3
You should know… Solving a triangle means finding all sides and angles. Law of Sines and Cosines work for all triangles – not just right triangles.
Law of Sines a b c A B C
Ex. 1: Solve the triangle with C = 102.3o, B = 28.7o and b = 27.4 ft. (Given AAS)
Law of cosines a2 = b2 + c2 – 2bcCosA b2 = a2 + c2 – 2acCosBc2 = a2 + b2 – 2abCosC
Ex. 2: Find all the angles. (Given SSS)a = 8 ft, b = 19 ft and c = 14 ft
Ex. 3: Find the missing measures. (Given SAS)A = 115o, b = 15 cm and c = 10 cm
Objective - To use basic trigonometry to solve right triangles.

LAW OF SINE Sin A = Sin B = Sin C a b c A, B and C are angles. a, b and c are the sides opposite their angles. Use when: you have 2 angles and a side (AAS.
EXAMPLE 1 Solve a triangle for the SAS case Solve ABC with a = 11, c = 14, and B = 34°. SOLUTION Use the law of cosines to find side length b. b 2 = a.
Test For Congruent Triangles. Test 1 3 cm 4 cm 3 cm Given three sides : SSS Two triangles are congruent if the three sides of one triangle are equal to.
7 Days. Two days In any triangle, the ratio of the sine of any angle to the side opposite that angle is equal to the ratio of the sine of another angle.
Math 112 Elementary Functions Section 2 The Law of Cosines Chapter 7 – Applications of Trigonometry.
Starter a 6 c A 49° 96° 1.Use the Law of Sines to calculate side c of the triangle. 2.Now find the Area of a Triangle.
Starter a 5 c A 51° 84°1.Use the Law of Sines to calculate side c of the triangle. 2.Find the measure of angle A.
Mrs. Rivas International Studies Charter School. The Law of Cosines and its Derivation The Law of Cosines is used to solve triangles in which two sides.
The Cosine Rule Can be used with ANY triangle, NOT just with right triangles!!!
TODAY IN ALGEBRA 2.0… Learning Target : You will solve triangles that have NO RIGHT ANGLE using LAW OF COSINES. Independent Practice.
