Bats Life Cycle A brown bat's life cycle has many steps. Baby bats are born after about 50-60 days in their mother's body. Baby bats are born in the month of September, and they stay with their mother until 6 years are over. The pup will start to fly at 2-3 months of age.
Bat Species There are many species of bats in Indiana. Southern Indiana has twelve known species of bats. They are the Eastern Red Bat, Rafinesque, Big Eared Bat, and the Silver Haired Bat. Some other bat species are the Eastern Pipistrelle, the Hoary, the Evening Bat, the Big Brown, the Little Brown, and the Eastern Small Footed Bat.
Bats and the Environment Bats fertilize people's crops. In fact, bat's poop, called guono, is the best fertilizer known to man. Bats can help people because they eat 1000 mosquitoes per hour. Megabats eat fruits. Bananas are one of the main fruits they eat. Bats can help people's crops because they eat many of the insects that destroy crops.
