The fun stuff The politics behind blogging Reflection time Explore time BY JULIE TUMARAE – TEACHING PRINCIPAL WAIPAOA STATION SCHOOL Goal – My goal this morning is for all participants to leave here thinking “Is blogging for me, for my class?” Yes!, I have some knowledge of how to get started! There are a multitude of web2 tools on the www – wild webbed world. The choices that a teacher makes regarding the use of web2 tools should depend on the context of learning and of course in some cases age / learning ability of the students. A choice I made was using blogging as a medium of communication between classmates, whanau and the local community. Of course with a blog it’s the wild webbed world.
As a focus for our ICT cluster is to develop professional learning journals using blogging. I decided to also use blogging for student learning journals. What I was learning through the ICT cluster workshops and phone hui I would return to school and practice what I’d learnt in the classroom. www.julietict.blogspot.comwww.julietict.blogspot.com

What we did? Brainstormed – What is a blog?What is a blog? Discussed our reflection comments through our e-portfolios, conferences or through learning conversations. Platform we are using is www.blogspot.comwww.blogspot.com Setting up gmail addresses for each student. This will enable them to have access to our blog. Administration capabilities.

THE NOT SO HEAVY STUFF!!! When will blogging take place. Ideas from the students were – After a unit of learning, this could be in writing, reading, maths, so this can range from a week to 4 weeks, during a unit of learning, on impulse because something excited me or this became boring. Blogging happens every Friday.
