1 HELP IN OVERCOMING SIN

2 HELP IN OVERCOMING SIN PRAYER

3 PRAYER It is through prayer that we petition God.
“And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” (Matt. 6:13)

4 PRAYER It is through prayer that we receive strength.
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

5 PRAYER It is through prayer that we receive strength.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints--

6 PRAYER It is through prayer that we receive strength.
and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (Eph. 6:13-19)

7 PRAYER We should pray regularly and frequently.
pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17) Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart (Luke 18:1)

9 HELP IN OVERCOMING SIN PRAYER THE BIBLE

10 THE BIBLE Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, For they are the rejoicing of my heart. (Psalm 119:11) My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. (1 John 2:1) Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. (1 John 3:9)

11 THE BIBLE Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

12 THE BIBLE Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ” Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

13 THE BIBLE Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. (Matt. 4:1-11)

14 THE BIBLE Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. (Psalm 1:1-2)

15 THE BIBLE He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. (Psalm 1:3)

16

17 HELP IN OVERCOMING SIN PRAYER THE BIBLE SELF-EXAMINATION

18 SELF-EXAMINATION Israel was to practice self-examination.
Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them (Deut. 11:16)

19 SELF-EXAMINATION We are exhorted to practice self-examination.
Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?--unless indeed you are disqualified. (2 Cor. 13:5)

20 SELF-EXAMINATION God's word is the standard.
“He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.” (John 12:48)

22 HELP IN OVERCOMING SIN PRAYER THE BIBLE SELF-EXAMINATION
KEEPING THE HEART PURE

23 KEEPING THE HEART PURE Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. (Prov. 4:23) For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you. (Prov. 23:7)

24 KEEPING THE HEART PURE When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand: Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.” Then His disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”

25 KEEPING THE HEART PURE But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.” Then Peter answered and said to Him, “Explain this parable to us.”

26 KEEPING THE HEART PURE So Jesus said, “Are you also still without understanding? Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.” (Matt. 15:10-20)

27 KEEPING THE HEART PURE Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things. (Phil. 4:8)

KEEPING THE HEART PURE AVOIDING EVIL COMPANIONS

30 AVOIDING EVIL COMPANIONS
But of the cities of these peoples which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance, you shall let nothing that breathes remain alive, but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, just as the Lord your God has commanded you, lest they teach you to do according to all their abominations which they have done for their gods, and you sin against the Lord your God. (Deut. 20:16-18)

31 AVOIDING EVIL COMPANIONS
Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations there was no king like him, who was beloved of his God; and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless pagan women caused even him to sin. (Neh. 13:26; 1 Cor. 15:33)

32 AVOIDING EVIL COMPANIONS
Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” (1 Cor. 15:33)

34 HELP IN OVERCOMING SIN PRAYER THE BIBLE SELF-EXAMINATION
KEEPING THE HEART PURE AVOIDING EVIL COMPANIONS A REVERENTIAL FEAR OF GOD

35 A REVERENTIAL FEAR OF GOD
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matt. 10:28) “And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!” (Luke 12:4-5)

36 A REVERENTIAL FEAR OF GOD
Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.” (Acts 10:34-35)

37 A REVERENTIAL FEAR OF GOD
Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. (Rom. 11:22)

38 A REVERENTIAL FEAR OF GOD
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Heb. 10:31) For our God is a consuming fire. (Heb. 12:29)

40 HELP IN OVERCOMING SIN PRAYER THE BIBLE SELF-EXAMINATION
KEEPING THE HEART PURE AVOIDING EVIL COMPANIONS A REVERENTIAL FEAR OF GOD LIVING EACH DAY AS OUR LAST

41 LIVING EACH DAY AS OUR LAST
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. (Heb. 9:27)

42 LIVING EACH DAY AS OUR LAST
Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

43 LIVING EACH DAY AS OUR LAST
Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that." But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. (James 4:13-17)

45 HELP IN OVERCOMING SIN PRAYER THE BIBLE SELF-EXAMINATION
KEEPING THE HEART PURE AVOIDING EVIL COMPANIONS A REVERENTIAL FEAR OF GOD LIVING EACH DAY AS OUR LAST REMEMBERING THAT GOD SEES US

46 REMEMBERING THAT GOD SEES US
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.

47 REMEMBERING THAT GOD SEES US
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You. (Psalm 139:7-12)

48 REMEMBERING THAT GOD SEES US
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. (Heb. 4:12-13)

49 REMEMBERING THAT GOD SEES US
They break in pieces Your people, O Lord, And afflict Your heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, And murder the fatherless. Yet they say, "The Lord does not see, Nor does the God of Jacob understand."

50 REMEMBERING THAT GOD SEES US
Understand, you senseless among the people; And you fools, when will you be wise? He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see? He who instructs the nations, shall He not correct, He who teaches man knowledge? (Psalm 94:5-10)
