2 SMS – Sustainability Metrics Scorecard Set of goals (e.g. WWMD, HHH, Clean up, Stakeholder Meetings, Learners to Leaders…) Reporting media: –Web Metrics Incident Reports –Web Metrics Surveys In the past we had these “Incident Types” As of 7/20/2011 – 1,400 **SMS** events Problems: –events reported in wrong categories –vague descriptions –trouble sorting New “Incident Types” and survey questions by Sylwia LaBudde

4 Donations to Food Banks and organizations that distribute food to the hungry in the community. Must carry a HHH sticker/stamp Include the following in “Short Description”: 1.name of the food bank or organization 2.lbs donated No survey entry  no SMS credit.

5 by Sylwia LaBudde Events should be conducted as part of a sanctioned program or event (e.g. Adopt-A-Highway, Clean the Bay) Include the following in “Short Description”: 1.name of the associated program or event 2.number of employees and man-hours donated to conduct the event No survey entry  no SMS credit. **SMS** Please record the number of Community Beautification events that members of the facility have participated in THIS MONTH (road cleanups, park restoration, etc - sponsorship of an event DOES count. One event per year is expected for each plant) Community Clean Up Count

6 by Sylwia LaBudde Include the following in “Short Description” : 1.event location 2.number of participants involved, as well as the name of their group (e.g. 25 Wilson Middle School 8 th grade students) No survey entry  no SMS credit. **SMS** Please enter the number of WWMD (World Water Monitoring Day) events that the facility participated in THIS MONTH (events count if the facility provided kits and/or employees actually participate with the sampling. One event per year is expected per plant) WWMD event Count

7 by Sylwia LaBudde Include the following in “Short Description” : 1. event name or description (e.g. Sampson County FFA Fair) 2.extent of involvement (e.g. donated money, judged competition, spoke about Smithfield) No survey entry  no SMS credit. **SMS** Please put in the number of FFA events that the plant has participated in for THIS MONTH (acceptable events include: Speaking, Judging a competition, or financially sponsoring an FFA event. 2 events per year is expected per plant) FFA EventCount

8 by Sylwia LaBudde Speak or present material on Smithfield’s sustainability efforts. Stakeholders include local citizen or government organizations. Attending a town hall meeting without presenting DOES NOT COUNT. Include the following in “Short Description”: 1. groups and/or people present 2. topics discussed (e.g. overview of Smithfield’s 2011 Sustainability Goals) No survey entry  no SMS credit. **SMS** Please enter the number of community stakeholder meetings hosted by the facility THIS MONTH. (acceptable meetings include; speaking at the Lions club, Rotary, etc - having any type of open invite to discuss facility programs with the general public such as RMP, or inviting a group on site such as the chamber of commerce, fire department, or school group. These are NOT meetings with employees, stockholders, etc - these are meetings that speak to the public in your local town. 2 per year Stakeholder meeting Count

9 by Sylwia LaBudde Receiving an award or recognition is NOT in this category. If submitting multiple projects, only send out a single incident notification. Include the following in “Short Description”: 1.specify the name of an organization to which projects were submitted 2. specify the number of projects/applications submitted No survey entry  no SMS credit **SMS** Please enter the number of environmental Award Applications submitted to Smithfield Foods Environmental Affairs - THIS MONTH The expectation is at least one application received per plant Environmental Award Application Count **SMS** Please enter the number of environmental or sustainability award applications submitted to third-party (state or trade association are both acceptable) THIS MONTH. The expectation is at least one application per plant annually. 3rd Party ProjectCount

10 by Sylwia LaBudde This category includes all types of awards and recognitions (e.g. AMI MAPS Awards, Governor’s Awards) Include the following in “Short Description” 1.describe the award or recognition, as well as the reason why it was received 2.specify the name of an organization presenting the award These events DO NOT get entered into monthly metric surveys.

12 by Sylwia LaBudde This category encompasses all other events that are NOT specifically listed in previous “incident types”. Examples include small food donations, money donations to various groups, volunteer activities, Relay for Life, fundraisers, etc. Include the following in “Short Description”: 1.event description 2. specify the amount of money, time, product, and/or volunteer hours Consolidate and summarize similar events (e.g. multiple non-HHH food donations)

16 by Sylwia LaBudde **SMS** Did you have any SMS events this month? (Yes/No). If so be sure to enter them in the Incident Notification software with a description of the event. SMS EventCount **SMS** Did you send out an “Incident Notification” for each qualified SMS event this month? (If NO = 0, if YES = number of events) Qualified SMS events include: HHH, Clean Up, WWMD, FFA, Stakeholder Meeting, Learners to Leaders, and Environmental Project Application Submission). The number of SMS events in your surveys must match the number of “Incident Notifications”. Be sure to provide a short description of the event when reporting via the incident notification system.
