Walking With God Lesson 1 What is Walking with God?

11am How to Call 11:15am Discussion 12pm SummaryIntroduction: Many Christians mistake their faith as a membership in a social club instead of the living relationship of a daily walk with God. What does ‘Walking with God’ mean to you? Which Bible character comes to mind? Do you feel that walking with God is for every Christian or a selected few?

11am How to Call 11:15am Discussion 12pm Summary 1. We are called to be disciples (learners) - Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations - Command is not just to baptize only but to make disciples - Do we merely give fish or teach how to fish? - Churches will grow if it is based on disciple making; not merely baptizing believers. Introduction

We are to love God more than any other - Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple - Hate is used in the same sense as Romans 9:13 of Jacob and Esau - Is God our #1 priority? Introduction 1. We are called to be disciples (learners)

11am How to Call 11:15am Discussion 12pm Summary 3. Each of us are to bear our cross - Luke 14:27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. - Our cross includes self-denial - Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. - Bottomline: it cost us something to be a disciple of Christ. Introduction 1. We are called to be disciples (learners) 2. We are to love God more than any other

11am How to Call 11:15am Discussion 12pm Summary 4. To bear the cross, we take Christ’s yoke -Matthew 11:29-30 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. - Key to discipleship is under- standing that we are helpless to do it by ourselves. - Example: a mother carrying a child who wants to help carry a parcel; the mother carries it all. Introduction 1. We are called to be disciples (learners) 2. We are to love God more than any other 3. Each of us are to bear our cross

11am How to Call 11:15am Discussion 12pm Summary 5. And walk in the Light -1 John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth - Example: 1 John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar - Disciple is walking with God (who is in the light). 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another Introduction 1. When relationship is right, all goes well; when it is not, there are many faults. Introduction 1. We are called to be disciples (learners) 2. We are to love God more than any other 3.
