GIVE 3 REASONS FOR THE ENOURMOUS GROWTH OF THE SUBURBS IN THE 1950’S: 1. Veterans had access to low-interest loans. 2.The Highway Act greatly expanded the highway system allowing for easier commutes to jobs in the cities. 3.Population expanded greatly due to post-war “baby boom”, more families started and had more children.
WHY WERE AMERICANS ON A BUYING SPREE IN THE 1950’S? - THEY WERE SECURE IN THEIR JOBS AND CONFIDENT OF INCREASING INCOMES. - THEY WERE TRYING TO “KEEP UP WITH THE JONESES”.
WHAT “EXPERIENCE” OR LIFESTYLE DID T.V. SHOWS IN THE 1950’S OFTEN REFLECT? IT OFTEN PORTRAYED THE WHITE MIDDLE-CLASS SUBURBAN EXPERIENCE.
