The Challenge for Educators and Parents: We must understand that there are gifted students who need programs that meet their needs, and there are also students who need nurturing so that their gifted traits can emerge.
Differentiation Through classroom differentiation students will experience continual progress toward learning goals.
Differentiation What is it? How is it implemented as part of the REACH program?
Aspects of Differentiation Classroom differentiation involves: Grouping students based on skill levels Providing a continuum of learning activities Organizing students to work on different activities as the class studies a particular concept or unit
Advanced Academic Development Verbal Mathematics
Goals for Learners Growth in strength areas Critical and creative thinking Effort, persistence, organization, risk- taking, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills and tolerance for ambiguity Independence, self-direction, discipline Problem solving, using multiple resources Positive attitude toward learning and accepting challenge
How are students identified? Advanced mathematical development: Trend on MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) Math assessment of 95 th percentile and above 7 or 8 on Math Behaviors Checklist (teacher observation of students mathematical thinking and learning)
