Folklore: Traditions and customs that people pass from generation to generation, such as stories, dances, games, arts, crafts, and celebrations.
Folklore is unique to groups of people from different countries, tribes, religions, occupations, and regions.
True Folklore existed in more than one time or place and has more than one version.
Folk Tales include *fairy tales *legends *fables *myths
Fairy Tales often tell about the adventures of a hero, heroine, or trickster.
Fables are mostly animal stories that teach a lesson or moral.
Legends often tell “tall tales” about a character who may or may not have been a real person.
Myths describe the creation of natural occurrences and are often told as though they are true.
Folk Tales have been written and collected over the years by many great writers from around the world, including Aesop, Hans Christian Andersen, and the Brothers Grimm.
Modern day writers have also written versions of folk tales. Some favorites are Paul Galdone, Steven Kellogg, and Verna Aardama.
