2  A telescope collects light coming off an object, like the moon, planets, and stars.  It focuses the light and magnifies it, making the object appear larger with more detail.

3  An observatory is a place where very high powered telescopes are kept.  This is where astronomers study the objects in the sky.

4  Astronomers are scientists that study all the different part of the universe.  What famous astronomers do you know?

5  A radio telescope is a very sensitive radio receiver.  They collect radio and sound waves from space.

7  How do man made satellites help us in today’s world?

8  The help us predict and understand weather.  They help us broadcast satellite television.  News stations and newspapers can receive up to date news stories  We are able to monitor and survey damaged areas from above.

10  Telescope help us see things better.  Cameras attached to the telescope give us pictures that astronomers can observe and study.  Computers help interpret and collect data from space.  Satellites give us a birds eye view of our planet.
