São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 Tasks and Methodoloties of Sustainability in Smart Sustainable Cities Dr. Ziqin SANG, Technical Director, Fiberhome Technologies Group Zqsang@wri.com.cn ITU Workshop on “Smart Sustainable Cities in Latin America” (São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013)
São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 2 Outline Definition of SSC Tasks of Sustainability Methodologies of E&E Sustainability A case study Economic sustainability Urban development & sustainability
São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 3 Definition of SSC Five elements of definition of SSC ICT, including infrastructures and acquirement, transmission and processing of information. Municipal administration and public service Citizen livelihood Industrial development and innovation Environmental and ecological sustainability A smart city is mainly based on the information and communication technologies. Through the transparent and full access to information, the extensive and secure transmission of information, and the efficient and scientific utilization of information, it increases the urban operational and administrative efficiency, improves the urban public service level, forms the low-carbon urban ecological circle, and constructs a new formation of urban development.
São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 4 Definition of SSC Architectural Framework of SSC
São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 5 Tasks of Sustainability Environmental and ecological sustainability sensor network + transmission network : obtain environment index in realtime information + application platform: forcasting & alert, decision-making environmental information service: public information, risk management...... Industrial development and innovation economic sustainability smart design and manufacturing......
São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 6 Methodologies of E&E Sustainability polution source on-line monitoring ambient air quality monitoring in city 356 monitoring centers, 13000 factories, in China 260 urban monitoring network, 1500 monitoring stations, in China
São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 7 Methodologies of E&E Sustainability water resource quality monitoring in city eco-environment monitoring in city 88 water resource risk management and alert platform, in China eco fragile area, biologic diversity area, wetland area, farmland monitoring, by 2015
São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 8 Methodologies of E&E Sustainability solid waste monitoring and tracing in city environmental satellite & airbone remote sensing Hazardous waste, clinical waste, dangerous chemicals climate change, vegetation cover, coast monitoring
São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 9 A case study: standing water management in Wuhan City Wuhan, a city on Changjing river, has a humid tropical climate with annual rainfalls over 1100 mm. When continuous stormy weather occurs, water could not be drained immediately. The result is serious traffic jams and power outages. water flow sensor 3D electronic map management platform drainage system forcasting and analysis simulation system digital valve and pipe standing water management system Through the realtime data collecting and analysing of drainage system, the refining solution can be given out and work status of the drainage system can be monitored. It will provide information and suggestion for traffic management. solution function issues
São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 10 A case study: assistant decision- making hall in Wuhan City water resource management public transport system decision-making system smart tourism platform e-government & e-commerce smart community ICT infrastructures assistant decision-making hall assistant decision-making hall provides fusion of various application of smart city.
11 Economic sustainability - smart design and manufacturing Smart Factories: Goal: More automation, better control & optimisation of factory processes Means: Software, lasers & intelligent devices embedded in machines & factory infrastructure Virtual Factories: Goal: To manage supply chains; to create value by integrating products ε t services Means: Software to holistically interconnect ε t manage distributed factory assets; new business models ε t value propositions Digital Factories: Goal: To “see” the product before it is produced Means: Software for the digital representation ε t test of products ε t processes prior to their manufacture ε t use Less waste Less energy use Faster time-to-market Better quality Factory productivity High-value products Keep jobs Process transparency IPR security Lower CO 2 footprint Supply-chain productivity Design productivity Reduce design errors Better ε t efficient products Less waster + rework Faster time-to-market São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013
12 Economic sustainability - coordinate with green São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 Technology （ Engineering Technology / Management Technology ） industrial structure / economies cultural / political / social Industrialization informatization Service- oriented Urbanization Green Constraints of smart city: resources environment new opportunity: technology industrial structure / economies cultural / political / social industrial intelligence
13 urban development and sustainability - an iterative optimization process São Paulo, Brazil, 30 July 2013 Overall solutions of modeling and optimization decisions for urban development and operation Key Indicators of urban development and operation prediction model GDP prediction model Revenue prediction model Energy consumption prediction model Ecological environment prediction model Infrastructure prediction model … Optimization decisions for urban development and operation Urban development and operation ‘ s main decision variables Urban development and operation indicators ’ predictive value Optimization decisions for urban development and operation Iterative optimization process
