3 Cancer terms Tumors Tumors are clumps of cancerous cells Benign Benign- remain clustered Malignant metastasize Malignant- Cancer cells can spread, break away and move throughout body by the bloodstream or lymphatic system, this is called metastasize These cells do not perform cellular functions but require nutrients and take up space

4 Carcinogens Produce or promote development of cancerous cells Cigarette smoke #1 UV light Many environmental toxins

5 Cell Differentiation Stem cells develop into specialized cells that each perform their own function Once cells have differentiated they cannot go back Stem cells exist in embryos, umbilical cord blood, and adults

6 Asexual Reproduction Creation of offspring from single parent without gametes Process similar to mitosis Most prokaryotes reproduce through binary fission
