5 5 Background The law defines mobility management as “short-range planning and management activities and projects for improving coordination among public transportation and other transportation service providers.” – –Operating transportation brokerages to coordinate service providers, funding resources, and customer needs; – –Coordinating transportation services for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and individuals with low incomes; – –Supporting local partnerships that coordinate transportation services; – –Providing travel training and trip planning activities for customers; – –Developing and operating traveler call centers to coordinate travel information, manage eligibility requirements, and arrange customer travel; and – –Planning and implementing the acquisition and purchase of intelligent transportation technologies

11 11 APTA Mobility management is a strategic approach to service coordination and customer service that is becoming a worldwide trend in the public transportation sector. The expectation is that, over time, transit agencies should move beyond the traditional role as operators of fixed-route service and assume a broader role in coordinating the full range of mobility services in their communities

19 19 Mobility Services for All Americans “MSAA” US DOT effort to widely disseminate technology in the transportation industry Initial efforts involved funding 8 pilot projects to develop a “systems engineering” approach to developing “one call” centers in regions Worked with an industry steering committee to take the work from the pilot programs and work through issues of communication and transferability once the pilots moved forward

20 20 MSAA USDOT funded three of the original 8 pilots for funding to move to phase 2 implementation USDOT and their contractor have set up a website to share information broadly within the industry www. MSAA-TMCC.org
