HOW MUCH DID YOU WANT IT? Text: John 7:10-24 Intro: Many of the successful professionals or business men does not come from a wealthy family. Their achievements were determined by their desire (wants) to have it. Aim: For us to desire/want to do His will and know His doctrine/teaching/Word.

I.When it comes to the teaching of His Word-v 14 A. This is the words of eternal life-John 6:68 -Nurses’ books, lawyers, doctors, etc. B. When you buy appliances or gadgets they come with instructions. C. Students go to university to learn although they have to pay.

II. He hasn’t been to school-v 15 A. He knows how to read. B. His parents must have taught Him how to. C. Teaching becomes interesting if the learner is eager to learn and know-Luke 2:46 “Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.” D. Although learning is greatly influenced by your teacher, learning is mainly on the hands of the learner.

III. The difference between head knowledge and revelation knowledge-v 16 A.He said His doctrine is not His but God’s. B.Our sufficiency is from God-II Corinthians 3:5 “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.” C. With His Anointing we can know all things-I John 2:20 D. I Corinthians 2:16 “We have the mind of Christ”. E. This is what Paul was talking about, “the mystery of the gospel.” Ephesians 6:19

IV. Our knowledge to His Word/doctrine is determined by our wants to do His will-v 17 A.It means, if you have 25% knowledge, you have 25% desire/wants. B.If we don’t want to do His will, we wouldn’t care knowing it. C.Once we wanted to do His will, we wouldn’t care whatever it takes to know His Word. -Shall-signifies determination. D. This is a two way process. Wanting to do His will is a key to know His Word and knowing His Word is a key to do His will.

V. You will even know that a doctrine is from God or from man.-v 17 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory-v 18 He who seeks the glory of God is true-v 18 I Tim 4:1 “Now the Spirit expressly says that in the latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons”. -These people were easily deceived because in the first place they don’t want to do the will of God. D. I John 4:1 “Beloved do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

VI. Moses gave us the law for us to keep-v 19 We don’t throw things we want and so with the law. How much of the law are we keeping or obeying? The amount of the law we obey, is the amount we want. There are those who obey the law for the sake of the law not for the sake of the will of God-v 22-23 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment-v 24.

Challenge: How much really did you want to do His will? When it comes to learning and knowing His Word? Conclusion: John7:17 “If anyone wants to do His will, he shall know concerning His doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak of my own authority.”
