Sea Transports Solutions Stern Landing Vessels (S.L.V.) have carved a niche into the small ship market, opening significant opportunities for builders and operators of passenger, utility, container, roro, bulk, AHTS and PSV vessels. The S.L.V. was a result of Sea Transport Solutions focussing on possible answers to the operational problems of conventional landing craft and to produce a vessel suitable for multi purposes. 3 Conventional Landing Craft Problem Area No. 1:- Poor Head Sea Capability Having a bluff bow, waves in excess of 600mm (2 feet) start to cause slamming, jarring of the whole structure and spray enshrouding the cargo and the wheelhouse……., and the speed will drop dramatically

4 The bow ramp in the stowed position creates a blind sector in the wheelhouse visibility. As most of these craft operate in coastal, inland and shallow areas, this of course is a problem in close quarter navigation. There are many recorded instances of groundings due to this fact, and running into windsurfers & small fishing boats at anchor has also occurred. 5 Conventional Landing Craft Problem Area No. 3:- The machinery space below the wheelhouse is just a source of noise and vibrations which makes life unpleasant for those onboard. For the crew, this can lead to lack of concentration and fatigue, particularly on extended voyages. Wheelhouse on top of Machinery

6 Conventional Landing Craft Problem Area No. 4:- While trying to debeach, the traditional landing barge frequently encounters difficulty, particularly where the bow has grounded. This encompasses:- 1. Propellers working inefficiently (ie. in reverse). 2. Problematic loading of heavy equipment & large trucks. 3. Bottom suction to sea bed in low draft, soft soil areas. 7 Conventional Landing Craft Problem Area No. 5:- The stability of a box shape barge is quite limited due to: 1. Low profile of the GZ curve. 2. Small freeboard, & shallow deck edge immersion 4-5degrees. 3. Free surface of numerous below deck flat bottom tanks. The stated total deadweight (dwt) of these vessels in most cases includes below deck liquid cargoes. “On deck” dwt is frequently as low as 45% of the total dwt. Lack of Deadweight
