Now imagine same people 10 years in the future what might they be doing, living, spending their time? On the back of the Aims and Methods sheet, 2-3 minutes to write down some qualities that today s Scouts will, in the future, have gained from current Scouting experience Some answers may be: - Self-motivation - High expectations - Focus - Interest in the outdoors - Technical Skills - Leadership ability - Citizenship 3A

Baden-Powell called Scouting A game with a purpose The aims = are Scoutings purpose –Help Scouts become better people –Realize full potential as they move into their futures The game part is what we most often see...Young people taking part in: –Outdoor adventures, –Service projects, –Meetings, –Advancement. All these are the Methods that Scouting uses to guide its members towards worthwhile aims. 4A

10 Discussion Continued... Underlying the aims and the methods of BSA is a... Solid foundation of ideals the values upon which all of Scouting s programs are built: –Cub Scout Promise and Law of the Pack –Boy Scout Oath and Law –Venturing Code and Oath Ask: "List on worksheet some specific ways each program of BSA brings to life the aims, ideals, and methods of Scouting." Encourage: "Share what you have written Facilitate a discussion: Now I would like you to discuss how BSAs aims and values relate back to the young people you thought about at the beginning of this presentation and what about those not involved now, but who could gain from the BSA message. 5A
