1 Sorurall Virtual Learning World Developed under the framework of “SORURALL” EU funded project Project Coordinator: Research Academic Computer Technology Institute (a non profit Research Institute supervised by the Greek Ministry of Education)

2 An open source Social Networking Environment to support Lifelong Learning in rural territories Application in several countries (Greece, Spain, Ireland, Bulgaria, Germany) and target groups (students, teachers, entrepreneurs, workers etc) Specific pedagogic scenarios per target groups All scenarios are to be implemented in real cases within 2010

3 Main Screen Select Language/ Portal

4 Registration Create a new account Request your password of an existing account Log in to the site using your existing username and password

5 Create new account (1) Desired username – common for all Virtual World Applications Valid address – account activation details will ed there Select “I agree” for web chat terms and conditions Click that button at the bottom of the page.

6 Create new account (2) After a few minutes (usually instantly) you will receive a confirmation mail When the system administrator approves your registration you will receive a new mail with a login link Visit the ed link in order to set a password for your account Registration completed!

7 Request a new password If you are an existing user but you have forgot your password Enter your Sorurall Virtual World username or the address that you had used during your registration. The system will you (usually instantly) a link to the Sorurall Virtual World Use this link once to create a new password for your account

8 User’s main page Available applications – each one explained in details later in this presentation User’s menu User’s personal space

9 User’s menu From this menu the user may add his/her own content to the Virtual world. She/he may write a new blog entry, upload a video (or link to a YouTube video) and create a new page to the Sorurall Wiki The user through “my account” may change or add personal information. The only information that it cannot be changed is the username. Customization of user’s personal space

10 Personal Space The user may customize the information that appears (in boxes) to his/her personal space at the main page. This may be a link to his/her favorite application (e.g. eLearning) or data from favorites applications (e.g. Newest Wiki Pages) She/he may select up to 3 options.

11 Blogs The main page of Blogs application – the newest blog posts from all blogs Read the specific blog post See all posts for a specific user’s blog Add a comment to this blog

12 Create Blog post Title of the blog entry Tags for this blog entry – will be used to the tag cloud and search Reach text editor – Many text formatting options, upload photos and more! Save or preview your post

13 External Applications In this area the user may find a list of links to other useful sites or applications. This applications are not connected to the Sorurall Virtual World. This links are added from the administrator of each portal

14 Video Sharing – View videos Search for uploaded videos List with recent videos Click to view this video See the description of a video Comment this video

15 Video Sharing – Upload file Enter a title for the video Select the video file from your PC (avi, wmv, mpg, mov) Non expert users leave this fields as is. Will be auto completed from the system Rich text editor for video’s description Save or preview your new video

16 Video Sharing – YouTube Video At the create content menu the user may select YouTube. The only difference is that instead of an “upload a file” form the “Video URL” form appears. The user copies and pastes the YouTube URL, add description and title for the video as before and the video is appearing to the Sorurall Virtual World. This method is ideal for flv video files and when the user wants to share a video with other (external or Sorurall Virtual World) applications

17 Wiki – Main Page Newest Wiki Pages Search for existing Wiki Pages

18 Wiki – create page Title of the new Wiki Page Tags for the tag cloud and search Rich text editor for the wiki page At body, create links to existing wiki pages using this syntax: [[some text]], where "some text" is the title of existing wiki page or the title of a page that will be create at the future from any Sorurall Virtual World User.

19 Instant Messenger Chat with other online users that share the same language Select a user from the list of online users and use the text box to send your message message textbox list of online users

20 Web Chat This module provides chatrooms where many users may participate in conversations In order to access the module use the link in the header as shown below Then you may enter the chatroom of the visited page (e.g. International chat) and select one of the available discussions (chats)

23 Video Chat This module allows users to participate in video conference sessions In order to access the module use the link in the header as shown below Then click the following link and the video chat will open as an external application

24 Video Chat Recommended browser: Firefox + Add block plus add-on list of available users your camera is shown here enable sound other people camera is shown here Press to start video chat

25 Social Network This external application provides social networking capabilites among all users In order to access it use the link in the header as shown below Then click the following link and the social network will open as an external application

26 Social Network - Dashboard settings link message inboxtools Dashboard: by editing this page the user can add dashlets with the latest info about social activity in the network

27 Social Network - Settings The settings page allows users to view their account statistics, edit their profile icon, configure their tools and change settings about notifications they receive

28 Social Network - Inbox Users are able to compose and send messages to their peers and read their received messages through the inbox page

29 Social Network - Tools The Social Networking application provides many social networking tools as: –blogs (create and read blogs) –bookmarks (bookmark content) –files (upload files) –friends (establish friendships) –groups (create friends groups) –members (browse members’ profile) –pages (create pages) –the wire (global chat room)

30 e-Learning This external application provides an e-Learning environment In order to access it use the link in the header as shown below Then click the following link and the e-Learning environment will open as an external application

32 e-Learning - Agenda View your agenda/calendar with courses, activities

33 e-Learning – Subrscribe to a training Visit training management from the trainings page Then, click Subscribe to a Training

34 e-Learning – Subrscribe to a training Select a training category Subscribe to a course Subscribe

35 Forum The Forum module allows users to discuss topics of their interest In order to access the module use the link in the header as shown below Then enter in the Sorurall Forum

36 Forum – Create a post Click the Post new Forum topic link Create the topic Topic Subject Topic Description Save topic

37 Forum – Add Comments Select the topic for which you want to add a comment Click the Add a new comment link

38 Forum – Add Comments comment subject your comment preview the comment before publishing

39 Forum – Add Comments comment preview make changes save your comment
