9 Rotavirus Launch The Rotavirus surveillance started in 2007 – National virology Lab –UZ – National Microbiology Reference Laboratory (NMRL) Three sentinel sites – Harare Hospital – Parirenyatwa Hospital – Chitungwiza Hospital Of the total of 2887 samples run up to 2011 – 1 495 (51.8%) samples were found positive for rotavirus Rotavirus vaccine launched in Harare Wednesday 6 th November Attended by doctors and other health workers from public and private Guest Speaker from Prof. Nathoo Administered in 2 doses – 1 st 6 weeks of age – 2 nd 24 weeks – Roll out Jan 2014
