“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalms 11:3)

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” How one is saved, Mk. 16:16; Acts 2:38

Acts 2:38, And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Matt. 26:28, For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many unto remission of sins.

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” The Genesis account of creation

The Genesis Account of Creation One week = Seven literal days

Shane Scott: “ The seventh day of the creation week in Genesis began at the creation of Adam and Eve, and has continued since that time. Thus, this seventh day is an age of thousands of years, and therefore justifies interpret- ing the other days as ages. ” (Sentry Magazine, Vol. 21, #1)

The Genesis Account of Creation One week = Seven literal days One week = Millions or billions of years

The Genesis Account of Creation Gen. 1:16, And God made the two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also…. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day. Gen. 1:12, And the earth brought forth grass, herbs yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit….a third day.

The Genesis Account of Creation Gen. 1:14, And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years …. 16 And God made the two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also…. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.

Ex. 20:9, Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work; 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath unto Jehovah thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man- servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Gen. 1  Moses wrote  Ex. 20:9-11

Genesis 1 is a foundational chapter! By the word of Jehovah were the heavens made, And all the host of them…. For he spake, and it was done... (Ps. 33:6, 9). I am Jehovah, that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth... (Isa. 44:24). He hath made the earth by his power... and by his understanding hath he stretched out the heavens (Jer. 10:12). The God that made the world and all things therein... (Acts 17:21).

Genesis 1 is a foundational chapter! By faith we understand that the worlds have been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen hath not been made out of things which appear. (Heb. 11:3). Rev. 4:11, Worthy art thou, our Lord and our God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power: for thou didst create all things, and because of thy will they were, and were created.

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Marriage, Matt. 19:3-9

Marriage Matt. 19:4, And he answered and said, Have ye not read, that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh? 6 So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Matt. 19:9, And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth her when she is put away committeth adultery.

Remarriage after sundering of marriage Alien sinners not under God’s marriage law Guilty party remarry Non-sexual adultery

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Woman’s place in God’s plan

1 Cor. 11:3, But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. 1 Tim. 2:11, Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection. 12 But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness.

Woman ’ s place in God ’ s plan Gal. 3:28, There can be neither Jew nor Greek, there can be neither bond nor free, there can be no male and female; for ye all are one man in Christ Jesus.

Woman ’ s place in God ’ s plan Gal. 3:28, There can be neither Jew nor Greek, there can be neither bond nor free... Eph. 6:5, Servants, be obedient unto them that according to the flesh are your masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ…. 9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, and forbear threatening: knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no respect of persons with him. “There can be neither bond nor free” ≠ The functional positions of the master and servant have changed. Therefore, “there can be neither male nor female” ≠ The functional positions of the male and female have changed.

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Unity among God’s people Eph. 4:1, I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you to walk worthily of the calling wherewith ye were called, 2 with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 giving diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

2 Jno. 9, Whosoever goeth onward and abideth not in the teaching of Christ, hath not God: he that abideth in the teaching, the same hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If any one cometh unto you, and bringeth not this teaching, receive him not into your house, and give him no greeting: 11 for he that giveth him greeting partaketh in his evil works.

Rom. 14:1, Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. 2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. 3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. Eat -vs- not eat Meat eating allowed. Some could in good conscience eat it; some could not

Romans 14 does not deal with matters that God commands or forbids. It deals with matters God allows. If, upon study of the Bible, we learn something is allowed, it fits in Romans 14. Faith or Authorized liberty? Things God commands? Things God forbids? Things God allows?

What some have placed into Rom. 14 Commenting on Rom. 14: “… The principle still applies as to instrumental music, missionary societies, etc. Such matters of indifference are not to be injected into the terms of salvation, or set up as tests of fellowship. ” (Philip Y. Pendleton, commenting on Rom. 14, Commentary on Thessalonians, Corinthians, Galatians, and Romans, pp. 525, 526, my emph, sw)

Rom. 14 applies to: “...The millennium, the work of the Holy Spirit, church organization, instrumental music, having a glass of wine, the role of women in church leadership. ” (Rubel Shelley, "A Call to Action," Restoration Forum, ACU, Abilene, TX, Nov. 1-3, 1995, my emph., sw) What some have placed into Rom. 14

“ ‘ Surely, ’ some people are saying, ‘ it is the duty of heterosexual Christians to accept homosexual Christians. Paul told us to accept - indeed welcome - one another. If God has welcomed somebody, who are we to pass judgment on him (Rom. 14:1ff.)? ’ ” ( “ Homosexual Marriage, ” John R.W. Stott, Christianity Today, Nov. 22, 1985, org/ hm arriage.html) What some have placed into Rom. 14

"It is obvious that Christians sometimes disagree about scriptural instruction, even in matters of considerable moral and doctrinal import. In spite of these disagreements, we work and worship together, leaving many matters of individual judgment in the hands of God. That behavior, uniformly practiced throughout the history of Christianity is, I believe, the issue addressed in Romans 14.” (Ed Harrell, Christianity Magazine, May, 1989, p. 6, all emphasis mine, sw)
