Converting To convert a smaller unit to a larger unit, move the decimal place to the left for each power of 10 difference between the two measurements or divide. For example: to convert from millimeter to meter move the decimal place 3 to the left because 1 meter is 10 3 times larger than 1 millimeter 35.0 mm = 0.035 m To convert from a larger unit of measure to a smaller unit of measure; multiply or move the decimal place to the right one place for each power of 10 difference between the two units of measure. 0.035m = 35.0 mm
