2 Continued growth of Latino electoral power brings national attention to Latino engagement. Latinos were a decisive force in the race to the White House, driving turnout in key states such as Florida and Colorado.

5 Nearly two-thirds (64%) of Latinos are native-born and more than one-third (36%) are foreign-born. More than 9 out of 10 Latino youth (under 18) are native-born (93%). Of the 18.9 million Latinos who are foreign-born, 6.0 million (32%) are naturalized citizens. There are an estimated 8.6 million Latino undocumented immigrants in the United States. 17 In a 2012 Election eve poll, Latino voters (53%) listed the economy as their most important issue. Like all Americans, Latino voters also included education and healthcare among their top issues. Since the mid 2000’s, immigration has increased in importance for the Latino electorate. Whether U.S. born or naturalized -- 32% and 39% of both groups listed immigration as the most critical issue in the 2012 poll.
