DOES YOUR HOME ABIDE IN THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST?
2 JOHN 9-11 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. GALATIANS 1:6-12
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. GALATIANS 1:6-12
1 CORINTHIANS 4:6 (ASV) Now these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes; that in us ye might learn not to go beyond the things which are written.
REVELATION 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
THESE SCRIPTURES APPLY EQUALLY TO THE HOME!
LET’S COMPARE THE DOCTRINES OF MEN WITH THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST.
DOCTRINE OF MAN: HOMOSEXUALITY, POLYGAMY, NO MARRIAGE FOR CHURCH LEADERS
i DOCTRINE OF CHRIST: ONE MAN, ONE WOMAN FOR LIFE
GENESIS 2:18-25 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
GENESIS 2:18-25 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
DOCTRINE OF MAN: TEMPORARY ARRANGEMENT, DIVORCE FOR ANY CAUSE
i DOCTRINE OF CHRIST: PERMANENT, FOR LIFE
MATTHEW 19:1-9 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; and great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
MATTHEW 19:1-9 And he answered and said unto them, have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
MATTHEW 19:1-9 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
MATTHEW 19:1-9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
ROMANS 7:1-3 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
ROMANS 7:1-3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
DOCTRINE OF MAN: WOMAN HEAD, MAN HELPER
DOCTRINE OF CHRIST: MAN HEAD, WOMAN HELPER
GENESIS 2:18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
i EPHESIANS 5:22-33 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
EPHESIANS 5:22-33 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
EPHESIANS 5:22-33 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
EPHESIANS 5:22-33 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
DOCTRINE OF MAN: CHILDREN DISOBEDIENT
DOCTRINE OF CHRIST: CHILDREN OBEY PARENTS
EPHESIANS 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
DOCTRINE OF MAN: UNCOMMITTED
DOCTRINE OF CHRIST: COMMITTED TO EACH OTHER
GENESIS 2:23-24 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
DOCTRINE OF MAN: NO TIME NO TIME FOR FAMILY FOR FAMILY
DOCTRINE OF CHRIST: SPEND TIME TOGETHER
EPHESIANS 5:16, 6:4 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil…And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
DOCTRINE OF MAN: NO NO THANKS THANKS
DOCTRINE OF CHRIST: SHOW APPRECIATION
1 THESSALONIANS 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
DOCTRINE OF MAN: NO COMMUNICATION
DOCTRINE OF CHRIST: GOOD COMMUNICATION
JAMES 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
DOCTRINE OF MAN: NO SPIRITUALITY
DOCTRINE OF CHRIST: SPIRITUALLY WELL
MATTHEW 22:2-14 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
MATTHEW 22:2-14 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: and the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
MATTHEW 22:2-14 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
MATTHEW 22:2-14 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
MATTHEW 22:2-14 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.
DOCTRINE OF MAN: CAN’T COPE WITH CRISIS
DOCTRINE OF CHRIST: COPES WITH CRISIS: JOB, ESTHER, DAVID
DOES YOUR HOME ABIDE IN THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST? IN THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST?
