Grant Information for Applicants

WHO WE ARE ImpactKC is a group of philanthropic and civic- minded individuals dedicated to making a substantive impact to the well-being of the Kansas City metropolitan area by leveraging the strength and power of a team beyond just the sum of the individuals.

WHAT WE DO Annually each member donates $1,000. The group then receives and reviews grant applications and presentations from charitable organizations and makes collective donations that substantively impact the lives of Kansas City area residents and their communities. We also host quarterly meetings dedicated to expanding philanthropic knowledge of the membership as well as providing information on local volunteer opportunities.

PAST GRANTEES 2012  Lazarus Ministries – Kitchen equipment improvements  Sheffield Place - Van  Rehabilitation Institute – Bookbinding and recycling project  Happy Bottoms – Warehouse efficiency improvements  Seaton Center – Child dental services 2011  Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas – Modernized bathroom facilities  Higher M-Pact – Mentoring for youth leaders  Miles of Smiles – Web-based patient database system  Reconciliation Services FOCUS – HVAC system  SAFEHOME Inc. – Bed-convertible furniture

GRANT FOCUS Areas of Interest: Aging Arts and Culture Community Development Education/Youth Services Health and Life Sciences Social Services/Families Excluded from consideration: Individuals, political parties, candidates or political activities Post-secondary educational institutions or any organization benefiting such institutions Religious organizations for denominational programs/purposes

GRANT GUIDELINES  To make a substantive impact on a tangible project or defined purpose  Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) charitable organization serving the Kansas City metro area  One-time grants awarded to one of “a few” organizations annually  $5,000 to $25,000 grant range

2013 APPLICATION TIPS Be sure to propose a tangible, concrete project for funding—not simply a general-purpose grant request. Keep your summary statement concise but informative. This is usually the only part of the application most ImpactKC reviewers will read. Identify your organization and its mission briefly, for some grant reviewers may not be aware of it. Be sure to link the project effectively to your mission

SCORING Grant applications are scored by members of the Grants Committee. Finalists approved by board. Scoring Highlights:  Clarity of project or purpose  Project’s value to those served  Overall impact on Kansas City  Financial viability of the project / organization  ImpactKC’s ability to make a difference to the project or defined purpose  Nonprofit profile used as reference material
