3 Uses Ser is about unchanging characteristics Description: Ella es baja. (She is short) Occupation: Soy maestra. (I’m a teacher.) Characteristic: Ellos son simpáticos. (They are nice.) Time: Son las ocho. (It’s 8:00.) – Date: Es el 25 de abril. (It’s April 25 th.) Origin: Soy de los Estados Unidos. (I’m from the US.) – Nationality: Soy estadounidense. (I’m American.) Relationship: Él es mi padre. (He’s my father.)

4 Estar: to be Conjugated as follows: Estoy (I am) Estás (You are) Está (He/she/it is) Estamos (We are) Están (They/you all are)

5 Uses Estar discusses changing characteristics Condition (including health): – Estoy enferma. (I’m sick). – El cuarto está sucio. (The room is dirty.) Emotions/Feelings: – Estoy triste.
