3 3 Background to DfT Funding Initiatives DfT announced £32 million available in July 2008 Element 1 - £24.50 million allocated to all authorities to support data collection Element 2 - £7.5 million to reward innovation and act as regional champions December 2008 – Bids Submitted May 2009 – 14 grants approved London received largest grant of £1.0 million – Innovative use of data – Structures Management initiatives – Defining Target Levels of Service 17 th November, 2009

5 5 What is LoTAMB LoTAG Asset Management Board Formed in October 2008 to oversee bid to DfT... And if the bid was successful : To be responsible for distributing the funding in support of deserving areas of excellence in the field of transport asset management To act as a regional champion and disseminate improvements in highway maintenance through better use of data To assist in forming a national network of champions to help disseminate good practice more widely 17 th November, 2009

8 8 LoTAMB Activities Since May 2009 June meeting with DfT to agree release of money October LoTAMB meeting to agree bidding process October £1 million received by Westminster City Council 19 October guidelines for bidding issued by David Yeoell to LoTAG2 Members Angela Wilson appointed as LoTAG secretary 17 th November, 2009

9 9 Use of Funds & Future Activities It is part of the £3.5 million planned to be spent on projects over the next 3 years to advance Asset Management for the benefit of London The money will not be divided up and an equal proportion allocated to all boroughs Bids to be submitted by end of November LoTAMB meets on the 8 th December to consider bids LoTAMB aims to respond to all bids within 3 months of submission LoTAMB has scheduled monthly meetings throughout 2010 to progress bids and approved projects 17 th November, 2009

10 10 Current Bidding Process Set out in David Yeoell note of 19 October All authorities that submitted ideas in 2008 have been approached to review content New individual bids can also be sbmitted Bids to be endorsed by HMSG, LoLEG or LoBEG A bid that addresses general asset management to be submitted direct to LoTAMB 17 th November, 2009

13 13 A condition of Element 2 funding is that the authority act as a regional champion LoTAMB wish to form a national network to help disseminate good practice more widely A key component of this exercise will be the dissemination of the practices authorities have adopted and the opportunity for other authorities to learn from and adopt them Link to other successful bidders 17 th November, 2009
