LT: I can begin to draft my Hero’s Journey project using what I learned about character archetypes. ET: We will be going to the library. Be prepared! You will need: Your notebook Something to write with Any work you have done so far on the Hero’s Journey
Assignment sheet Fill out proposal!
Tools You Can Use Today: Hero’s Journey Graphic Organizer (on back table) Your notes about character archetypes Your Hero’s Journey ideas from the website Your goal: Plan out what will happen in your story in at least 3 of the stages of the hero’s journey & plan to include at least two character archetypes (so far)
World Geography LT: I can write a claim that makes an argument about a statistic. ET: Be prepared: Open your notebook to your notes from yesterday about economically developed countries Take out your statistics worksheet Circle the statistic that surprised you most
Writing claims based on evidence We are going to level up our claims. We are going to do this by tying together our idea, our evidence, and our explanation. There are three parts to this kind of claim: - Your argument (your idea/position) - Your evidence (a statistic) - A rule (what does the evidence mean?)
Rules A rule helps explain your evidence. For example: Countries with higher GDPs are more economically developed. Countries with lower unemployment are more economically developed. What other rules could we add to this list?
Put your evidence with your rule Rule: Countries with a higher GDP are more economically developed Evidence: The US has a GDP of $15.68 trillion The US is first in comparison rankings Therefore…
My claim: The US is the most economically developed country (CLAIM), because more developed countries have a higher GDP (RULE), and the US has a GDP of $15.68 trillion and is number 1 in the comparison index (EVIDENCE).
You try: Look at your data about unemployment. (What is the US’s unemployment rate? Where is it in the comparison index?) Our rule: Countries with higher unemployment are less economically developed. Put it together: The US is __________ (more/less) economically developed, because ___________ (rule), and the US has ___________ (evidence).
You try again: Now, pick another statistic Then, write the rule Hint: what does that statistic tell you about how economically developed a country is? (Countries with ______ are more/less economically developed.) Write a claim
Exit ticket On an index card, write a claim using these this rule and this evidence: Rule: Archetypical heroes sacrifice for others. Evidence: Peter Parker sacrifices for others. Write your claim:
Homework Due Monday: Using what you learned about writing claims, write ONE paragraph using the “Economic Statistics Worksheet”: PICK ONE: - Which of these countries would geographers say is the “most developed” economically? - Which of these countries would geographers say is the “least developed” economically?
