2 Stephen F. Austin Stephen F. Austin was born in Virginia on November 3, 1793.

3 Stephen F. Austin He graduated from Transylvania University in Kentucky. When Stephen F. Austin was 11 years old, he went school in Connecticut.

4 Stephen F. Austin He worked in his father's general store. Stephen F. Austin helped run his father's lead manufacturing business.

5 Stephen F. Austin was also: A director of the Bank of St. Louis A judge An editor of a newspaper in New Orleans

6 Stephen F. Austin By the age of 27, Stephen F. Austin decided to help his father by moving three- hundred families to settle in Texas. These first settlers of Texas were given the name of the, "Old Three Hundred".

7 Stephen F. Austin In addition to bringing new families to Texas (which was then known as Tejas), Stephen F. Austin helped the new colonists and the people of the Mexican Government talk to each other.

8 Stephen F. Austin Stephen F. Austin was known as the Father of Texas. A giant statue of Stephen F. Austin was started in April of 2004 to honor Stephen F. Austin for all he had done.

9 Stephen F. Austin There is a state park named after Stephen F. Austin. Twelve acres of the park were set aside in honor of the area's past. It is located on the Brazos River. It was here where Stephen F. Austin, brought the settlers to colonize Texas under a contract with the Mexican Government. Stephan F. Austin State Park

10 Stephen F. Austin Nacogdoches, Texas is the home of Stephen F. Austin State University. Austin, Texas is named after Stephen F. Austin.

11 Stephen F. Austin Stephen F. Austin was a man of patience and diplomacy, a “thinker,” who made things happen. After devoting the best years of his life to the cause of Texas, Stephen F. Austin died December 27, 1836 at the age of 43. Each year a celebration is held at the site of his death in Brazoria County.
