4 Royal College of Physicians Census 2006 Almost half of all physicians < 35 are women 6.4% increase in women consultants overall, 12% in Cardiology Eight of 17 new consultant appointments in Cardiology were women, bringing us to 9.1% overall (25% in medicine as a whole) 20% SpRs in Cardiology female in 2006 census

5 Highlights of 2007 Higher Specialist Training Committee Chairs Qaire 4 new committees reached 25% goal: E. Scotland, N. Ireland, Oxford, SW London 12/22 (55%) always include a woman on appointments committees 18% of current trainees are women ?MTAS 10 flexible trainees currently

6 Work in progress…. 5/13 total responders still have no experience of organising flexible training 3/13 passed on info re Womens Network 5/13 report initiatives to encourage recruitment from FY1, FY2, ST1, ST2, and role modelling Recognition of need to mentor new consultants in 11/13 responders Either formal/informal provision of mentoring in 5/13 Medical school links embryonic
